Lonely Hen

Between thieves and predators, I’m down to one hen. I’ve shot a couple raccoons and a ‘possum in the hen house, but critters still manage to find a way in. This one hasn’t laid in the several days she’s been alone. I think maybe she’s lonely.

If anyone can give her a good home, you’re welcome to her. I have no interest in paying to feed a pet chicken, but I also don’t want to needlessly slaughter a perfectly good animal. Eat her, breed her, use her as a layer or to clean up your garden this fall, keep her as a pet, I don’t really care. Just give her a purpose. She has none where she is. Anyone want her? I’m pretty sure she’s a Golden Comet, and she’s either one or two years old.

Also, I’ve got a giant puffball mushroom. I haven’t weighed it, but it’s a little smaller than a soccer ball. I’m pretty sure it won’t keep until the farmers market on Saturday. If you get it now and cook it, though, you can freeze whatever you don’t use right away. One customer talked about slicing them to use as little pizza crusts. I haven’t tried it, but I may if nobody gets this one.
