A formerly vegan blogger shares a (lengthy) tale of how she came to start eating meat again. The story starts with health problems she encountered, not due to “doing veganism wrong,” but simply because of the idiosyncrasies of her unique physiology. In Part 2, she gushes about how much better she feels on her new diet. In Part 3, she gets into the good stuff, the reason I’m sharing her post here. She talks about how she came to grips with this change on a moral and ethical level. She undergoes a radical paradigm shift where she lets go of her extremist dogma and applies a more critical eye to the issue of whether veganism actually does what it claims to do in regards to the environment, world hunger, etc. Part 4 is pretty much extraneous unless you’re a regular reader of her blog, so if you’re in a hurry, just scroll down to Part 3 and read that.
Voracious Eats: A Vegan No More
The reason I was particularly interested in sharing Part 3 of this essay with you is that the author pokes holes in the false choice presented by so many vegans, that you either have to support animal abuse and environmental degradation by CAFOs or give up animal products altogether. Such a choice leaves out options like Frijolito Farm, which, in my opinion, is superior to both factory farms and animal product abstinence.
